Semantic search is a Pro feature. The quickstart states it plainly: "delimit_memory_search (search by meaning) requires Pro and returns a premium-required result on Free; on Free the assistant reads recent entries." The docs put it the same way: "Storing and recent recall are Free; semantic search (delimit_memory_search) requires Pro." Worth knowing before choosing the free track, which is what most people will start on.
Node is a prerequisite. The quickstart's first step is "Check prerequisites and preview setup — You need Node."
The gate has three behaviours, not one. The docs say "Delimit has three enforcement modes that control how governance decisions are applied", so which mode a repository runs is a decision to make rather than a default to accept.
What runs where, in their words: "Both run on your machine and need no account" (docs), and "No account or model API key needed for local memory" (home page). Tasks and handoff notes "live in a local ledger" (home page).
